1. IS SPURN AGAINST FREE SPEECH?

2. I AGREE WITH SPURN, BUT I AM UNCOMFORTABLE MAKING A DONATION AS A RESPONSE TO WRONGDOING.

3. I WANT TO DONATE, BUT I PREFER AIPAC (OR THE IDF OR THE NEW ISRAEL FUND...)

4. WHAT ARE THE AIMS OF SPURN?

1. IS SPURN AGAINST FREE SPEECH?
Absolutely not! We are Americans, and we fully support the right to free speech, even speech we find offensive. The problem here is the venue. Picketing our synagogue to protest Israel's policies is like picketing the local elementary school to protest the U.S. Secretary of Education's policies. It is the wrong place. There is nothing political about our worship at synagogue on our Sabbath. The picketers are using their right to free speech to infringe on our right to free religious expression. What they are doing crosses the line of acceptable behavior by destroying the civil environment that Americans expect to be free of religious and ethnic intimidation. back to top

2. I AGREE WITH SPURN, BUT I AM UNCOMFORTABLE MAKING A DONATION AS A RESPONSE TO WRONGDOING.
We often donate in times of joy. Solidarity is a joyful thing, and over 100 Beth Israel member units or close relatives have come together to show that their spirit is not broken by this long siege. Support from the larger community is also a joyful thing. People from all over the world have donated to comfort us in this time of strife. We often donate to wish those suffering from illness a speedy recovery. May this chronic affliction speedily resolve! back to top

3. I WANT TO DONATE, BUT I PREFER AIPAC (OR THE IDF OR NEW ISRAEL FUND OR...)
There are many ways to do good, but one special aspect of this campaign is the opportunity to form a caring and supportive community. Many organizations are worthwhile; we have chosen Magen David Adom USA specifically because it is a humanitarian organization that serves all victims of violence without regard to ethnicity or religion. What makes it better than some other choices right now is that 115 other donors have joined together to support this cause.Even those donating to other causes should consider a donation to MDA for SPURN as a way to show solidarity with this community. back to top

4. WHAT ARE THE AIMS OF SPURN?
We aim to provide a positive outlet for the frustration of those who encounter hostility as they seek the sanctity of prayer. We aim to provide a similarly positive outlet for those of good conscience in the wider community who want to tell Ann Arbor and the world that Americans do not tolerate the targeting of religious expression, especially minority religious expression. We aim to marginalize anti-American behavior by getting religious and civil authorities on record in opposition to this breach of bedrock American values. back to top
